Subproject 4: The Role of HEIs in Capacity Building and Conflict Prevention
Sub-project 4 discussed the role universities can play to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 2 (“zero hunger”), SDG 8 (“decent work and economic growth”), SDG 16 (“peace, justice and strong institutions”), and, most importantly, SDG 17 (“partnership for the goals”). During the directorship of the international research cluster, we organized several activities, such as field visits, a lecture series and a conference, which brought together all research partners and facilitated collaboration and knowledge exchange. In this context, all researchers - from student to professor - presented the results of their work on conflict-induced displacement, livelihood transformations, remittance channels and economic resilience. In the two short films, two research projects with the contribution of students have been presented. It had been how students can already contribute to the achievement of SDGs with impactful master research projects with impactful master thesis embedded into global cooperation projects
